MEE Hosts ASM Materials Camp

posted February 2015

ASM Materials Camp is a four day summer camp for students entering their junior or senior year of high school. It is a unique science experience combining mini-demonstrations, field trips and time in professional laboratory facilities exploring materials science and engineering principles.

For the past six years, MEE has sponsored and  hosted students from the Minnesota ASM Materials Camp for a day of hands-on laboratory experience. The student’s time in the MEE laboratory is spent working in small teams conducting real-life engineering projects including preparation and examination of specimens for microstructure analysis and examination of their samples using light microscopy and scanning electron microscopy.

MEE staff members, Larry Hanke and Kurt Schenk, were two of the principal founding organizers of the Minnesota camp and continue as mentors for the program. Neal Hanke has also contributed as a mentor for the past 4 years. The 2015 camp is scheduled for June 16-19. Deadline to submit applications is March 31, 2015.
