History and Culture

Company founder and CEO, Larry Hanke, had been working as a consulting materials engineer in the San Francisco Bay area for fifteen years before choosing to move back to the Midwest with his family. Minnesota was an obvious choice because of the reputation and strength of the medical device and manufacturing industries. Larry had years of experience working with clients in the these fields and recognized the need for an independent, high-quality materials charaterization laboratory in the Twin Cities area.

In 1995, Materials Evaluation and Engineering Inc. opened it's doors. The office and laboratory, with our first scanning electron microscope, were up and running. Hey, we even had a website.  Laboratory Manager, Kurt Schenk has been with MEE since day one. Senior Scientist, Dieter Scholz was hired within two years of opening. Larry had found fellow science geeks who are good at what they do and enjoy the everyday challenges of a very busy laboratory. MEE quickly generated referrals from our many satisfied customers.Larry Hanke with MEE's first Scanning Electron Microscope, 1995
